Family Fun For The Holidays

When I was a kid, one of my favorite things to do around the holidays was seeing Christmas light displays. Then, when we had our own children we wanted to create holiday memories around experiences rather than focusing on the gifts. I started to search for light displays as an activity that we could do together and was surprised to see so many options in Ohio.

The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium

The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium Lights have been a tradition in my family for at least 16 years and we’ve continued that tradition as we’ve had our own children. We get all of our families together for the Zoo lights so all of the cousins can experience it together. The Columbus Zoo does a fantastic job setting up light displays all throughout the Zoo. In addition to the light displays, the aquarium, manatee building, snake exhibits, and stingray buildings are all open as well.

The Christmas Cave

This year we traveled to Minford, Ohio, and visited the Christmas Cave. This was cool! The displays take you on a journey through the story of Mary, Joseph, and the birth of Jesus. The setting is inside a cave that was used for mining white gravel. The ceilings were high and the cave was large and wide open. It also stays at a temperature of around 50 degrees on the inside, which is great because Ohio weather can be a little crazy in December.

They had a BBQ food truck set up outside of the cave, as well as popcorn, hot chocolate, and a coffee truck.

Below is a list I put together for you of different light displays from all around Ohio. Some of these we’ve been to, and some of them are still on our list.
