The last couple of years I’ve been on this journey of applying some things we learned through our wholistic health practitioner over 10 years ago when my daughter got sick. We learned so much about gut health and the effects that environmental toxins can have on your health, and did so well applying them for several years after, but to be honest, somewhere in the mix of selling our previous home, moving into our new home and completely renovating it, we stopped practicing all of the things we’d learned.

Over this last year I decided we needed to get back to caring for our gut health, lower inflammation, and build our bodies back up with nutritious foods and less toxic products.

Swapping to products that are non-toxic can be pretty overwhelming to do all at once, so I’ve done it slowly over time. I started with our foods; switching to raw milk, buying grass fed beef in bulk, and butchering our own chickens. We also started buying cleaner lunch and snack options, which we get mostly from Costco. I love all of the cleaner options that Costco sells, and it’s more affordable buying in bulk for a family our size. This has been an awesome change and I’ve noticed my kids aren’t getting sick as often as they used to.

Next, I started on things like soaps; hair, body and laundry. Then, I started on makeup and skin care products. It was perfect timing too because I had some good options by the time my daughters birthday came around and she asked for makeup for her birthday. I’d rather her start out with clean products that don’t contain harmful chemicals and hormone disruptors.

Here is a list of some of my favorite products:

Shampoo and Conditioner- We have been using this brand the last 6 months or so and everybody likes it. It doesn’t leave a residue or make our hair feel grainy like some other brands we’ve tried.

I’ve heard really good things about this brand as well. I haven’t personally tried it yet, but it’s on my list to try next :)

Body Wash- One of our favorite body washes has been this Attitude body wash. It bubbles up, smells nice and is very affordable.

Laundry Detergent- I have really liked this Attitude liquid laundry detergent. It lasts a long time and works well for cleaning our clothes. It doesn’t have a strong scent so if that’s something that’s important to you, this Truly Free liquid laundry detergent is a great non-toxic option as well. I have used it and felt like it worked well too. It also leaves that fresh laundry scent on your clothes too.

Foundation- My favorite non-toxic foundation has been this BareMinerals BarePro liquid foundation. It’s a full coverage foundation and goes on so smooth without feeling cakey.

Bronzer- This Well People bronzer stick is so good. It’s creamy and blends easily leaving your face looking snatched.

Lip and Cheek Color- I have been using both Han and Honest Beauty cream lip and cheek colors and they are so good. The color is vibrant and a little bit goes a long way, which means these last a long time.

Mascara- My absolute favorite non-toxic mascara so far has been this DIME Beauty volumizing mascara. It gives my lashes a thicker and fuller look, lasts all day and doesn’t leave any fall out at the end of the day. It’s so good!

Face Cleanser and Moisturizer- I had started having a lot of skin issues like break outs and inflammation using other common skin care products which is what led to my search for non-toxic products. I found this cocokind cleanser and moisturizer and have really liked it. I prefer the jelly cleanser over the oil to milk cleanser, and the texture smoothing cream moisturizer. The jelly cleanser suds up nicely and leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed and the moisturizer keeps my skin moisturized all day without getting greasy. The best part is my skin has been so much clearer since switching to these clean products!

I hope these recommendations help you in your journey to finding non-toxic products for your everyday life!

XOXO,

Liz
